At the end of July, we received an order from Bouwbedrijf Huurman in Leiden to supply and install a new natural stone floor in the reception hall and staircase of the University of Applied Sciences Leiden.
This concerns approximately 540 m² (phase 1). To minimize inconvenience for students and staff, a demolition company was busy throughout the school holidays in July, removing the old floor finish.
Before the start of the new school year, the contractor laid temporary floorboards with carpet over the bare concrete floor. On Wednesday, October 2, we began laying the new natural stone floor in a sand-cement mortar bed.
The floor tiles were manufactured in our own factory in Portugal. The stone is Portuguese: black granite with a blasted finish. The dimensions are 1.2 x 0.6 meters and are being laid in a half-brick pattern.
The entire floor area has been divided into 7 sections to minimize disruption for visitors and students, ensuring smooth passage and access throughout the school building.
We expect to complete the work in approximately 4 weeks.
